Use Aiden in Microsoft Teams

Use Aiden in Microsoft Teams

You can work with Aiden right inside Microsoft Teams. Ask a question, check on an alert, or hand Aiden a task, and get the answer in the same conversation. You do not need to open the Aiden web app.

Available for roles: Admin Workspace Admin Workspace User

Scope: Workspace

Before you start

An admin must first connect Aiden to Teams and choose which chats Aiden answers. If Aiden does not reply to you, ask your admin to follow Set up Microsoft Teams.

Where you can talk to Aiden

PlaceHow to askGood for
Personal chatJust type your message. No tag needed.Your own questions and tasks.
Team channelTag @Aiden in your message.Team work, such as an incident channel where everyone sees the answer.
Group chatTag @Aiden in your message.A small group working on the same problem.

In channels and group chats, Aiden reads only the messages where you tag it. It does not read or answer the rest of the conversation.

To open a personal chat, click Apps in Teams, search for the Aiden app your company set up, and click Open.

Ask Aiden something

  1. Write your question or task. In a channel or group chat, start with @Aiden. For example:

@Aiden why is the checkout service returning 500 errors since 10:00?
  2. Send the message. Aiden adds an eyes reaction within a few seconds. This means Aiden got your message and is working on it.

  3. Aiden replies in the same conversation. Longer work, such as an investigation, can take a few minutes.

Tips for good answers

  • Be specific. Name the service, environment, and time. "Errors in payments in production since 10:00" works better than "something is broken".
  • Say what you want back. For example, "give me the likely cause and the next step" or "summarize in three bullet points".
  • Ask one thing at a time. Send a follow-up for the next question.
  • Paste the alert. If you are asking about an alert, paste its title or text into the message.

Follow up

To ask more, reply in the same conversation or thread. In a channel or group chat, tag @Aiden again in each follow-up message.

For example:

@Aiden what changed in that service in the last deploy?

Approve or reject an action

Some actions need a person to say yes first, for example restarting a service or changing a setting. Your workspace policies decide which actions need approval.

When this happens, Aiden posts a card that shows what it wants to do and the details it will use. Pick one of the buttons:

ButtonWhat it does
ApproveAiden goes ahead with the action.
RevisitAiden does not run the action. It rethinks the step and suggests something else.
RejectAiden does not run the action.
warning

Always use the buttons. Typing "yes" or "no" does not approve or reject an action. This keeps approvals safe and makes sure each decision is recorded with the name of the person who made it.

You can also review approvals in the Aiden web app. See Approvals.

Answer Aiden's questions

Sometimes Aiden needs more information before it can continue, for example which environment to check. Aiden then posts a card with a question and a text box.

  1. Type your answer in the text box on the card.
  2. Click Submit answer.

Aiden continues from where it stopped.

Who can use Aiden

Aiden answers only people who are members of your Aiden workspace. It matches your Teams email address to your Aiden account.

Aiden works as you. It can use only the tools and data that your role allows, the same as in the Aiden web app. Anything Aiden does is recorded under your name.

If Aiden replies with access denied, ask your admin to add you to the Aiden workspace with the email you use in Teams.

Common questions

Aiden did not react or reply. What should I do? In a channel or group chat, check that you tagged @Aiden. If you did, your admin may not have added this chat to Aiden yet. Ask them to add it.

Can other people see my conversation with Aiden? In a personal chat, only you see it. In a channel or group chat, everyone in that chat sees your message and Aiden's reply.

Can I send files to Aiden? Not in Teams right now. Paste the text you want Aiden to read into your message instead.

Is there a record of what Aiden did? Yes. Aiden records requests from Teams under the name of the person who asked. Workspace admins can review them in Audit Logs.
